What clothes to give to kindergarten?

The right clothing for kindergarten is very important. Whether it’s raining, snowing or the sun is shining outside, in the kindergarten the children play outside in all weathers. In general, therefore, your child should always be dressed according to the weather or should find the appropriate clothing in the kindergarten. The following items of clothing are usually left behind for everyday kindergarten life or brought along regularly:

• Rainwear: The kindergarten also plays outside when it rains. So that your child can jump in puddles or walk through mud holes without hesitation, your child should bring a rain jacket, mud pants and rubber boots to kindergarten and leave them in kindergarten.
• Winter clothing: Your child’s clothing must be particularly warm in the cold season so that your child can play outside longer. In the winter months there should therefore be snow trousers, a thicker jacket and waterproof boots in the kindergarten. Gloves, scarf and hat should not be missing either. You can leave your winter clothes and rain clothes permanently in the kindergarten.
• Swimwear and sun protection in summer: In many kindergartens, water is played outside in the hot summer months to allow the children to cool off. Your child therefore needs swimming trunks or a bathing suit, sunscreen and a sun hat in kindergarten.
• Gym bag: For the sports lessons, your child needs trousers, a T-shirt and shoes or slippers that are suitable for indoor sports. It is best to ask the kindergarten what exactly your child needs for sportswear.
• Slippers: Since your child wears slippers all day in kindergarten, they should be as comfortable as possible. A non-slip sole reduces the risk of accidents occurring when romping around. Velcro fasteners make it easier to put on and take off independently.
• Change of clothes: If your child is active all day, it can happen that his clothes get dirty or wet. So that it always has the opportunity to put on something fresh, it is good if you leave a change of clothes in your child’s compartment. This is especially important if your child is still wearing diapers, as wet pants can then be quickly replaced.

Requirements for clothing for kindergarten

• Solid materials : In the kindergarten there is wild romping, climbing and sliding. A thin fabric on the knees and elbows wears through quickly. Many parents therefore prefer to use robust, durable fabrics such as jeans.
• Velcro fasteners on clothing and shoes: Jacket and shoes should be easy for your child to take off and put on. The educators look after many children and therefore have little time to help each child get dressed and changed. Everyday kindergarten life is therefore easier for everyone involved if your child can do a lot independently. For example, practice tying your child’s shoelaces. Clothing with Velcro fasteners or snaps is also very suitable.
• No cords and ties: Your child can get caught while playing or on sports equipment with a jacket or sweatshirt that has cords, ties, or cords. It could get caught on a door, railing or fence and injure itself. A safe alternative to this is Velcro or snaps.
• Bright colors : If your child is going to wear the clothes outside of the kindergarten, it doesn’t hurt to choose jackets, rainwear and winter clothes in bright colors. So your child is seen well in kindergarten and on the go. Unusual colors also have the advantage that your child always recognizes their clothes themselves.

Tip: Label clothes for kindergarten

Labels are great for labeling the clothes your child wears in kindergarten or that you deposit. Sew-in labels are often the most practical because they are not so easy to peel off. If you have several children, it makes sense not to write your child’s first name on the label, but your last name. This makes it easy to pass clothes on to younger siblings without having to rewrite them. If there is also a phone number on the label, it will be easier to contact you.
