Recovery in childbed: This is how you succeed
Childbirth is the culmination of your pregnancy. So that you get enough rest in childbed, you should take time for yourself. Because in childbirth only your little family and your own recovery after the exertion of childbirth are important.
A birth is an absolute masterpiece that has already begun ten months before. Now you can rest and take it easy. Most mothers usually feel fit again shortly after giving birth. But your body needs some time to recover and adjust to being non-pregnant. After all, you are suddenly about seven kilos lighter.

The grace period for new mothers is 42 days. It is divided into two sections, the early postpartum period and the late postpartum period.
Recovery in early confinement
The early puerperal bed is the first 14 days after birth. In these first two weeks you can let yourself be pampered like a princess. Apart from breastfeeding, diaper changing and your own personal hygiene, you should not have to worry about anything during this time. Your midwife will keep visiting you and your baby for the first few days and will check on you. If necessary, of course longer. If you need help in the household, you are also entitled to a household help. But many new moms prefer to only be around their partner, mother, sister, or a close friend. They can do everyday things like cleaning, cooking and shopping for you. This allows you to take much more time for your baby and relax.
If neither your partner nor anyone else close to you can make the time, talk to your midwife. She can issue you with a certificate for domestic help. Then the costs for the help are covered by the health insurance company.
Visitors can help
Of course, many relatives and friends would like to get to know the baby right away and be happy with you. That’s nice, but sometimes it’s pure stress for you. It’s better to postpone most visits to a later time, when you’re recovered and life with the baby has settled down. And if you don’t want to postpone your visit, why not combine it with something useful. Many new mums and dads ask visitors to bring a delicious stew or something else. A “cleaning or shopping voucher” is certainly a great and practical gift for you as young parents. So don’t be afraid to ask for practical help instead of flowers and chocolates.
Recovery in the late confinement
The late postpartum period is the period from about the 15th to the 42nd day after birth. During this time, your body slowly adjusts back to its normal, non-pregnant state. The uterus recedes and the weekly flow decreases and eventually stops altogether. In the late confinement you can start with postnatal exercises . Real sport is taboo. The confinement ends about six weeks after the birth. Finally, you should have your gynecologist examine you again.
rest for you
Try to see the postpartum period for what it is: a grace period and shelter for the young mother. Take time for yourself! Friends and relatives will certainly understand if you don’t want to receive a horde of baby visitors every day.
