In 1826, Friedrich Heinrich Ranke wrote the lyrics to the Christmas carol “Tochter Zion, rejoice”. The melody comes from the oratorio “Joshua”, which was composed by George Frideric Handel in 1747. Together with Ranke’s text, the melody is known to this day.
