Traits of a Good Father: These Are They!

The role of father has changed over the past few decades. A father should no longer just be a provider, but also build a strong emotional relationship with his children. We have summarized a few points for you that a good father should fulfil.

Even in the time before the birth, you can see who is a good father. Does the man want a child? Does he deal with child development and future family life during pregnancy? Is he attending a birth preparation course with his mother and would like to be present at the birth?

Qualities of a good father

We have put together some requirements for a good father:

  • Time for the children: A good father devotes at least one to two hours a day to his children. At the weekend it is three to four hours a day. During this time, the ideal father takes care of the children exclusively and intensively.
  • Playing and learning: The good father plays a lot with his children, jokes and romps around with them and is there to cuddle. Sport and romping promote motor skills. The ideal father motivates his children regularly and supports their development. The good father also encourages his children on a spiritual level. He explains the world to them or researches new areas of knowledge together with the children. In adolescence, joint activities decrease, the father supports his children in their interests and strengthens their confidence in their own abilities.
  • Division of Labour: However, a good father is not limited to enjoyable activities such as sports and education. He also takes part in the educational tasks and ensures that the established rules are consistently implemented. With a good father in the house, there is also no traditional distribution of work. The ideal dad washes, rinses and cleans just as much as his partner.
  • Emotional Relationship: A good father has a strong emotional relationship with his children. He takes the children seriously, shows them his feelings and treats them with affection, openness and understanding. Violent parenting methods and outbursts of anger do not occur with him.
  • Financial responsibility: And of course a good father with a job contributes to the financial security of the family. However, he is not necessarily the sole breadwinner; the mother can also pursue a career.
The perfect father does not exist!

Unfortunately, a perfect father has not yet been seen anywhere. It is almost impossible for one person to meet all of the above requirements. Who behaves appropriately in every situation, sometimes serious and emotional and then again playful and funny? Accept and understand that your partner cannot meet all requirements.
