6th month of pregnancy: your baby

From the 6th month of pregnancy (21st to 24th week of pregnancy) the baby bump continues to grow rapidly. You should now be gaining an average of 400 grams per week.

  • In the 6th month of pregnancy, the fetus is about 33 cm tall.
  • Since he does not yet have any fat reserves, he appears thin. However, his skin has become thicker and the sweat glands are fully formed.
  • The lungs and brain continue to mature, and the eyes bulge outward.
  • Since the balance organs are mature, the unborn child quickly finds any position. There is a lot of fidgeting and somersaulting because the arm and leg muscles are now fully developed. However, it also goes through phases of rest in which it sleeps a lot.
  • In addition, the lacrimal glands are so developed that tear fluid can form.
  • Since the sense of taste is now very developed, the fetus perceives the taste in the amniotic fluid and drinks more the sweeter the taste. You can therefore influence his drinking behavior through your diet. Your unborn baby drinks 200 to 760 ml per day and thus trains the swallowing reflex.
  • In addition to the outer layer of cheese, it produces an inner layer of fat, including the “brown fat”, in the neck area, around the kidneys and behind the breast bone. This layer insulates and warms your baby similar to hibernating animals.
  • Note: The fifth check-up is due.

6th month of pregnancy: Your body

Towards the end of the 6th month of pregnancy (21st to 24th week of pregnancy) your body continues to develop: your uterus reaches the level of the navel, the pressure on your bladder decreases. Thanks to this relief, many activities are much more fun again.
