9 home remedies that will help you and your baby with constipation
Constipation can be uncomfortable and painful. In many cases, however, simple home remedies can eliminate digestive problems. Together with MICROLAX® we will explain to you what will help you and your baby now. By the way, you can also easily implement our tips if you are currently pregnant.
That helps you
1. Sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice
Raw sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice are especially helpful on an empty stomach for mild constipation. They contain lactic acid bacteria that act like a probiotic drink. The dietary fibers also stimulate digestion. The effect sets in after about six hours. However, the sauerkraut can cause slight flatulence.
2. Dried fruits and fruit juices
Dried fruits also have a gentle effect on constipation. You can eat them pure or steeped (along with the soaking water). Delicious fruit juices such as plum, pear or pineapple juice are also ideal as laxatives because they contain fruit acid, pectins and fiber that promote digestion. However, you have to wait a bit for the effect, it only sets in after one to three days.
3. Sources and fillers
Flea and linseed as well as wheat bran swell up in the intestines, softening the stool and stimulating intestinal activity. If you decide to use this natural laxative, you should definitely drink at least two liters of liquid (still water or tea is best) throughout the day so that the seeds can swell. Here, too, the effect sets in after one to three days.

4. Massage
A gentle abdominal massage can relieve constipation. It is suitable for babies from six weeks and should be carried out at a comfortable room temperature of around 25 degrees and with massage oil. Here you can find out how the massage works. We also explain to you here what you should definitely pay attention to.
5. High-fiber foods
If your offspring is already eating complementary food, a change in diet can help with constipation: high-fiber foods such as cereal porridge or fruit puree soften the stool in the intestine and thus relieve the constipation. You should also avoid feeding constipating foods such as rice and bananas if you are constipated.
6. Care
A sore bottom can also lead to constipation. Small tears in the anus cause your baby pain when having a bowel movement, which is why it keeps its business. The stool then thickens and causes pain again with the next bowel movement. You should therefore take good care of your baby’s buttocks with ointment.
This will help you both
7. Movement
We all know the famous digestive walk. And it doesn’t bear its name for nothing, because exercise really stimulates digestion – in adults as well as in children and babies. Of course, toddlers and babies cannot yet do specific exercises, but you can still motivate your offspring to crawl, for example, or carefully cycle with your baby’s little legs.
8. Liquid
If you are constipated, you and your baby should drink a lot, preferably water or unsweetened tea. The liquid softens the stool and relieves the constipation.
9. Mini enema
So-called mini-enemas are good alternatives to oral laxatives. These are mini enemas that are as easy to use as a suppository. The rounded cap is even narrower than a suppository and can be inserted gently and hardly noticeably. After about 5 to 20 minutes, mini enemas can relieve you or your baby of constipation. They are also suitable for pregnant women, because the local effect in the rectum poses no danger to the unborn baby.
