All the birds are already there: text and notes

August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben wrote the lyrics for this song in 1835. The melody dates back to the late 18th century. It was first published in Hamburg in 1844 together with the text mentioned here.

Here you will find the lyrics and sheet music for the children’s song “All the birds are already there”.

All the birds are already there

1. All the birds are already here,
all the birds, all!
What singing, making music,
whistling, chirping, trilling!
Spring now wants to march in,
comes with song and sound.

2. How they are all merry,
nimble and happy to move!
Blackbirds, thrushes, finches and starlings
and the whole flock of birds
wish you a happy year,
lots of salvation and blessings.

3. What they announce to us now,
we take to heart:
We also want to be merry,
merry like the little birds, singing
here and there, field to field
, jumping, joking!
