Creative Christmas decorations: making table lanterns

This table lantern is a beautiful Christmas decoration for your table. You put a tea light in it and the fir trees are already lit up for Christmas.

Age: from 5 years
What you need: red photo cardboard, green/golden gold foil, white transparent paper, scissors, glue, ruler, pencil

Instructions for making a table lantern

  • First you cut out a 45 cm long and 12 cm wide strip from the red photo cardboard. You then subdivide it with the dimensions as specified on the template.
  • Now you help your child to draw the windows of the table lantern. To do this, draw another box in each of the 4 boxes, directly in the middle, so that the distance to the edge is always 2 cm. The squares in the middle have the dimensions 7 x 8 cm. Now you help your child to cut out the boxes.
  • Then you help your child to cut out 4 rectangles measuring 8 x 9 cm from the white transparent paper. You then glue these into the windows of the table lantern so that the adhesive edges are on the inside and are not visible from the outside.
  • Now you can help your child to transfer the Christmas tree template 4 times onto the gold foil, which your child then cuts out.
  • Next, your child can glue the Christmas trees from the outside in the middle of the windows of the table lantern so that you can see the green side.
  • Finally, fold the lantern as shown on the template and glue it together.
