Dolls at Ökotest: many models are “dangerous”

The good news first: Four dolls at Ökotest were able to achieve the grade “Good”, one even a “Very Good”. Unfortunately, the overall result is less positive. Ökotest even calls the test models “dangerous playmates” – and not without reason! According to the testers, 11 out of 18 dolls have safety deficiencies, for example small parts on many models that children can swallow easily came loose. Seams also simply unravel, releasing the filling. In addition, some dolls are also contaminated with pollutants.

Dolls at Ökotest: The winners 2018

A total of five dolls convinced the testers from Ökotest and achieved good marks. Here are the winners in detail:

The winner: “Krümelchen im Pajamas” by JAKO-O

The clear winner and rightly rated “very good”: the doll “Krümelchen im Pajamas” from JAKO-O. This is a model made of fabric, which not only achieved great test results, but is also cuddly and soft. Since the fabric is completely free of harmful substances, you can cuddle with peace of mind.

“My friend Conni” by Haba

Also doll “Conni” from the popular children’s book series of the same name made it into the top 5. The toy rated “Good” is ideal for toddlers. The rag doll consists of a cotton filling and the hair is made of soft chinelle. A cuddly soft model – perfect for the little ones.

The handmade rag doll “Rubens Kids Barn Mimmi” has also earned a place on the winners’ podium. Ökotest describes the rag doll as “marketable”. It therefore has no safety deficiencies.

“Smiki stuffed doll Adele” by Spielemax

The cheapest doll among the test winners is the model “Smiki Stoffpuppe Adele” from Spielemax. The rag doll also boasts a “good” rating. The testers also agree on this model: Parents can calmly let their child cuddle with “rag doll Adele”.

“Mini Bambina Celina” by Kathe Kruse

The only plastic doll among the winners: Käthe Kruse’s “Mini Bambina Celina” . Your sweetheart can play with it without having to worry about small parts coming loose. The testers are convinced of her and also give this toy the grade “Good”.

Loser at Ökotest: Eleven times “insufficient”

11 out of 18 dolls are not safe for small children – according to the unequivocal statement of the Ökotest experts.

The doll Corolle Bébé Calin Babypuppe” from Mattel was “best” of the losers with the grade “sufficient”  . The testers complained that the doll’s eyelashes could come off and she was also unconvinced when it came to the ingredients. Zapf Creation’s “My little Baby Born” was also punished with a “poor”. 

Eleven dolls received the worst grade of “insufficient”. According to Ökotest, these should not be put on the market at all due to serious safety deficiencies. The losers at a glance:

After the frightening result, the testers from Ökotest give parents a few more buying tips along the way. It is advisable for parents to critically examine the doll themselves before buying it. The best thing is to pick up the toy yourself and pull on it. In this way, defects can often be identified at a glance. In addition, Ökotest advises against dolls with eyelashes, as these can quickly become detached. Children could swallow these.
