1. Material for making a school cone
In order to make a school cone yourself, it is best to use high-quality materials, because this makes the school cone more stable and you can make the crafting easier. The following materials are necessary to make a school cone:
- 1 large sheet of cardboard DIN A1advertisement
- Colorful paper or cardboard of different colors
- 1 meter crepe paper
- Maybe crepe paper in a second color
- 2 meter ribbon
- Decoration material such as glitter foil, stickers, wobbly eyes
- 1 meter cord
- Cardboard for drawing templates
- scissorsadvertisement
- ruler
- staple gun
- Good tack liquid glue
- Clear tape
- 2 clothespins
- pencil
- Waterproof black marker
2. Prepare cardboard for the school cone
To make the school cone, you first need the sheet of cardboard, the cord and the pencil. The pen is attached to the cord. Now hold the loose end of the cord with your thumb in a corner of the sheet of cardboard and draw a circular line on the cardboard like you would with a pair of compasses. You need a little more than a quarter circle so that you still have enough adhesive surface. With the ruler you can draw two straight lines from the circle line, which should be about 45 centimeters long.
3. Cut out the blank for the school cone
Now carefully cut out the shape you have drawn along the lines. Apply a generous amount of liquid glue to the adhesive surface and allow the glue to dry briefly. Then you can roll up the sheet of cardboard into a firm school bag and press the adhesive surface firmly. Make sure that the tip is also rolled up tightly at the bottom and that there is no hole. Before you can continue tinkering with the school cone, the glue should dry for an hour. During this time you can fix the school cone with the clothespins.
4. Hide the glue fold of the school cone
If you want to hide the glue fold a little on the outside, you can stick a nice ribbon or some stickers over it. To make sure that the glue doesn’t come loose, you can additionally reinforce the glued seam from the inside with transparent adhesive tape. Now you have the blank for the school bag ready. By the way: Such blanks made of colorful cardboard can also be bought in stationery or toy shops before you start school, if you want to make your school cone easier.
5. Make crepe paper cuff
Now you can make the crepe paper cuff for the school cone. To do this, the crepe paper is wrapped around the outside of the school cone – edge to edge with the opening of the school cone. You can use the tacker to attach the crepe paper all around. To avoid cracks, you should also use a layer of transparent adhesive tape as reinforcement. Then the crepe paper is carefully folded upwards. Instead of crepe paper, you can also use tulle or felt.
6. Alternative crepe paper embellishment
If you want to give the school cone a very special touch, you can also use two layers of crepe paper. First you cut the school cone wavy at the top. Then you prepare the two layers of crepe paper in different colors. Both layers are cut jagged at the top, one layer is only half as big as the other. First you attach the shorter layer of crepe paper to the inside of the school bag with liquid glue. Then the longer one follows. Again, you can use clear tape to attach the crepe paper cuff more securely.
7. Choose motifs for the school cone
Now you can start making the decorations for the school cone. It is best to choose a motif that your child likes, for example butterflies, pirates, flowers, fairies, cars, snakes, spaceships, ladybugs or horses. Alternatively, you can also choose a motif that goes well with school enrollment, such as letters, numbers, school children, pens or small school cones. You can make your own templates out of cardboard, which you can use to cut figures out of colored paper. These figures are then glued to the school cone, as in our two proposals.
8. Be creative when making a school cone
Be creative with the school cone and use funny stickers, wobbly eyes, ribbon or glitter to beautify the school cone and the figures. You can also make a small school cone from colored cardboard or a piece of cardboard in a different color, which is slipped over the large school cone at the bottom. If you cut it jagged or wavy at the top, you can conjure up a grass or seascape on the school cone. If you want, you can also use wrapping paper with a pretty pattern and cover the outside of the school cone with it.
9. Make a name tag for the school cone
To give the school cone a particularly personal touch, you can make a name tag for the school cone. You can write your child’s name on it, which you can also decorate with stickers or glitter. The name tag is either glued directly to the school cone or attached as a sign to the closure of the school cone.
10. Make a closure for the school cone
If you want, you can also make a special closure for the school cone. To do this, cut out a nice shape from colorful cardboard, for example a star, a flower or a heart. Then you cut a larger hole in the middle of the shape so that you can put the crepe paper on the school cone through. Depending on your taste, the shape can also be painted or pasted. Alternatively, you can also use a nice ribbon to close the school cone. Just tie a large bow around the crepe paper.
