For many pregnant women, the idea of dancing with a round stomach and swollen legs may be unusual – but the circular movements learned from belly dancing can make childbirth easier. When it comes to belly dancing for pregnant women, the focus is not only on the pure dance technique, but also on the joy and desire to move. Bellydance can be a great addition to traditional childbirth classes. Some postures and movements correspond to those of modern birth preparation. It’s less about practicing choreographies than about increasing body awareness.
In the course you will get to know the elementary movements of oriental dance, such as the large pelvic circle, the pelvic wave and the hip swing. Later, together with the other course participants, you will work out your own step and dance combinations based on the basic movements you have learned. Various dance accessories such as hip coin scarves and half-round veils are also used.
However, belly dancing is not suitable for every pregnant woman. You should have the necessary interest and not be afraid to move. It should also not be a high-risk pregnancy . When registering, make sure that this is a special course for pregnant women. Because not all movements of oriental dance are suitable for pregnant women.

When and where to take a belly dance class?
- Suitable for : Pregnant women from the 18th week of pregnancy (no high-risk pregnancies)
- Time : 5 to 10 lessons
- Providers : Birth centres, midwives, teachers for oriental dance, parents’ schools, adult education centers and selected hospitals with maternity wards offer belly dance for pregnant women
- Costs per lesson : The costs are between 8 and 16 euros (depending on the provider)
