Zebra cake for the children’s birthday party
A zebra cake is a fun idea for any birthday party. The children will definitely be amazed by the striped pattern and will paw their hooves in anticipation!
You need for the zebra cake:
- 5 egg yolks
- 250g sugar
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
- 1 bottle of butter-vanilla flavoring
- 125 ml lukewarm water
- 250 ml cooking oil
- 375 grams of wheat flour
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 5 egg whites, beaten until stiff
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
For the icing you will need:
- the juice of a lemon
- 200 grams of sifted powdered sugar
- maybe some water
How to prepare the zebra cake:
For the dough, stir the egg yolks, sugar and vanilla sugar at the highest setting until fluffy. Then you stir in the butter aroma, the water and the oil. Mix the flour and baking powder well and gradually stir them into the egg mixture. Then carefully fold in the stiff egg whites. You mix half of the dough with the cocoa, the other half remains light.
Now line a springform pan with parchment paper. Alternatively, you can also grease them. Two tablespoons of the dark batter are now placed in the mold, but not distributed! This is important so that the beautiful zebra pattern is created in the end. Now put two tablespoons of the light dough on top. You have to work with 2 spoons. The process is repeated until the dough is used up.
Don’t smooth out the batter – it will spread itself out, creating the fun visual zebra pattern effect. The cake is baked at 160 °C hot air, with gas at level 2-3 or top/bottom heat at 180 °C (preheated) for approx. 50-60 minutes. Then you remove it from the mold and let it cool down. Then you stir the frosting together and cover the cake with it. Finished!
