Birth Report: An induced birth

Sabrina Wilsch explains: “It was July 24, 2008, a Thursday at 9:15 am. I had another gynecologist appointment, as always for a CTG. At that point I was 3 days past due.”

Beaming with joy, I went to see my gynecologist. I felt good. As always, the little one did somersaults in my stomach. But the CTG was quiet, I think she was sleeping. But my gynecologist said the baby movements were not enough. He recommended that I go to the hospital at 7:00 am the next day for induction. What a shock for me!

The day just never ended and the night became eternity! Then it was 5:00 a.m., finally surviving last night with a big belly. My husband and I got up. He was almost more excited than me! I drank the super delicious nettle tea in peace. Together we were in the hospital shortly before seven o’clock, my midwife was on shift that day (lucky me!). I came back to the CTG first – I was starting to not like the thing anymore. Everything was fine with the little one again, but from then on there was no turning back.

The induced birth

First came the enema, a bad idea for me, but in the end it was quite bearable. A strip was introduced to introduce it. I then lay in the delivery room for six hours and nothing happened. But really nothing at all! Then I was taken to a room, somehow I was completely disappointed at the time. In the afternoon, around 3:00 p.m., my husband and mother came to the hospital to see how I was doing. They couldn’t understand that I was still jumping around like a young deer. At the time, I no longer believed that anything would happen that day. An hour later I got a slight pull in my back (but only very slightly),

The first contractions

The day was slowly coming to an end, I ate supper in peace and got ready for bed. I woke up at 11pm and there it was, the long awaited contractions ! But at that moment I wished they would go away again.

After two hours of in-room torture, I was taken to the delivery room. Of course I had to go to the CTG first. The contractions were well advanced and quite regular!

At 1.30 a.m. my midwife called my husband to come to the hospital as soon as possible, it would start. He said on the phone: “Yes, I’ll have another coffee and then drive off”. How nice, I’m tormenting myself and he’s drinking coffee!!! At 2.20 a.m. he was finally there, but he was no help! He said he was so tired! I couldn’t lie down during labour. I got up every time and hung on the rope, maybe that did me good. My husband didn’t understand that, of course, but how could he, he wasn’t in pain. At 4:00 a.m. my waters broke – an uncomfortable feeling. Then my cervix finally opened. Up until then we were only three centimeters and I knew that I had to get to ten centimeters so that we could continue.

The pressing contractions

Despite the pain, the time went by quite quickly and shortly after six o’clock the pressing contractions came, which were the most pleasant for me! My midwife was already very jittery, the end of her shift was at seven o’clock and she really wanted to give birth to my child. When she said she could see the head and hair I really wanted it to be in my arms, I pushed like crazy and at 6:57 the little one was finally there. My husband cut the umbilical cord with tears in his eyes (how cute). Then she was finally in my arms, the most beautiful feeling of happiness in my life! And they were all right, the pain is gone as soon as the little one is here. An indescribable feeling!
