Home remedies for fever: what helps now
Although you should have your doctor check what is behind the symptom if you have a persistent fever, you can get a slight increase in temperature under control yourself by using one of the numerous home remedies for fever. We reveal here how you can reduce the fever with heat-dissipating and sweat-inducing home remedies.
Heat-dissipating home remedies for fever
Some home remedies for fever have a so-called heat-dissipating effect. This is the case, for example, in winding applications. They can have a refreshing and pleasant effect on your feverish child.
- Calf wrap: A proven home remedy to reduce fever is a calf wrap . He has a long tradition and usually helps quickly. This is a cold application on the body, which has a pleasant and beneficial effect after just a few seconds. Wet, cool cloths are used for normal calf wraps. Kitchen towels are particularly good for this. They are first wetted in lukewarm water and then gently wrung out. Then wrap the towels around your lower legs so that they fit snugly. A dry cloth must then be laid over it. After about 20 minutes you can remove the calf wraps. They should not be used for more than ten minutes on small children, otherwise there is a risk that they will cool down too much.
Warning: calf wraps should not be used on babies under the age of six months, as they could suffer a circulatory collapse. Calf wraps should also not be used if you have chills. - Vinegar wraps : The vinegar wrap is also a cold wrap application and a good alternative to the calf wrap. Vinegar has many effects on the body. If you have a fever, this home remedy is refreshing and relaxing. It has a regulating effect on body temperature, i.e. it creates a temperature balance. When using vinegar wraps, you first need a pad to protect the lying surface. For a vinegar wrap, add five tablespoons of vinegar essence to one liter of water. The towels should be moistened well with it and then wrapped around both calves. As soon as they get warm, which is about every five minutes, you should change them.
- Vinegar socks: Vinegar socks or vinegar slippers are basically a different form of wrap. They also lower the fever and bring relief. Here, too, a pad must be laid out to protect the lying surface before the vinegar socks are actually used. In a first step, the cotton socks are soaked in one liter of water to which five tablespoons of vinegar essence have been added. The socks are then wrung out and then put on. Finally, put a dry pair of socks over it. They should be kept on until the inner pair, the actual vinegar socks, are dry.
Sweaty home remedies for fever
A sweat cure supports and accelerates the fever. But you should make sure that you drink enough during the sweating treatment, otherwise the body dries out. You can make yourself sweat a lot with these home remedies for fever:
- Cold bath: A cold bath can relieve the symptoms of fever and ensure well-being. For this, the bathing water must be at a temperature of 38 to 40°C. In addition, three to four drops of an essential oil (menthol, eucalyptus, thyme) or a bath additive especially for colds must be added to the water. The invigorating scent will do you good and the warmth of the water will make you sweat.
Caution: The bathing time should not be more than 20 minutes. Otherwise, the circulation is only unnecessarily burdened. - Drinking tea: Certain herbs have a so-called sweat-inducing effect. They stimulate the metabolism and promote the sweating out of the fever. For example, teas made from lilac, lime blossom, elderflower, chamomile and ginger can help.
- Going to bed : Going to bed after the bath – it makes sense to wrap yourself in several blankets so that you are nice and warm. If you now also drink tea, you can really sweat it out. When packing, however, you have to make sure that you don’t snuggle up too warmly, otherwise heat build-up can easily occur.
