Intercessions for baptism: The most beautiful congratulations

In a baptismal service, the reading of the intercessions must not be missing. Through them, the congregation asks God for blessings, for example for the baptized child, his family and friends. The intercessions can be formulated freely and thus express exactly what you want to say with it. We have put together a selection for you here, from which you can choose or from which you can be inspired to write your own texts.

The prayers for baptism are an integral part of both the Protestant baptismal service and the baptismal ceremony in the Catholic Church . They are short prayers in which the grace of God is asked for the person being baptized and their family. But those in need are also often included in these prayers.

How many prayers for baptism?

As a rule, there is no limit to how many intercessions may be held in the baptismal service. So that the fair does not become too long, you should limit the number better. If, for example, the parents, the two godparents and possibly one of the grandparents intercede, this is usually a sufficient mixture.

Structure of the prayers for baptism

Intercessions for baptism are always structured in a similar way. First of all, the word is addressed directly to God, for example through the formulation “Great God, we ask you for the baptized,…”. Then a request or a good wish for the person concerned is attached. The intercessions are usually read alternately by several people, for example the godparents or other parishioners, and the other people present respond with “We ask you, hear us.”

Here are a number of baptismal prayers that may help you make your own choices.
