ÖKO-TEST checks children’s bath products: A product is disappointing across the board
We wanted the best for our little ones – especially when it comes to sensitive baby skin. At ÖKO-TEST, 21 bath additives for children were put to the test. The good news: Nine products can reap the top rating. But not every bath additive showed its best side in the test. Above all, one product disappoints with questionable ingredients.
Probably most babies and children love a cozy bath. The right care products are essential so that the sensitive skin of children is not unnecessarily stressed. Questionable ingredients have no place in the bathtub.
In the current test (2/2022) , ÖKO-TEST examined 21 bath additives for children. Among them are four certified natural cosmetic products as well as children’s baths from own brands, but also branded products such as Hipp or Kneipp. The gratifying test result: Nine products scored well. The testers awarded the top grade “very good” a total of nine times. Three bath additives get the grade “good”, five still get a “satisfactory”.
But not all bath additives ensure pure bathing fun: four children’s baths were less popular with the ÖKO-TEST, one was even penalized with the grade “poor” due to controversial ingredients.

Four children’s bathrooms disappoint with questionable ingredients
According to ÖKO-TEST, parents should stay away from four children’s pools. Hothouse’s Kids Stuff Crazy Soap Color Changing Bubble Bath particularly disappointed the testers and received the grade “poor”. The bath additive contained some controversial ingredients, including problematic preservatives such as formaldehyde/formaldehyde releasers.
Three other bath additives also have no place in the children’s bathroom and were awarded a narrow “sufficient” by the testers, including branded products such as Kneipp (Naturkind Pirate Bubble Bath) and Johnson&Johnson (Bebe Zartpflege bubble bath and shower).
