Taboo topic digestion: She goes crazy so much during pregnancy
Pregnancy – an exciting, just wonderful time! At least that’s what the many beautiful baby bump photos on Instagram convey. Many people don’t mention that pregnancy also includes more unpleasant things such as digestive problems. Not so blogger Alina from wanderlustbaby.de. Here she tells openly about the digestive problems she suffered during pregnancy and how she got rid of the symptoms.
There are really so many wonderful topics that you would like to share with the whole world during pregnancy – the first hesitant steps, the ever-rounder belly, the first purchases for the baby. You could talk about this non-stop with family and friends!
And then there are some things that are part of a pregnancy, but unfortunately are not quite as nice. Aside from the morning sickness that can accompany you for the first few months, there’s digestion. And this really got to me in the course of my second pregnancy! Not that I was completely innocent… But let’s start in order.
Digestive problems are not uncommon
I had discussed the issue of digestion and the associated changes with my midwife fairly early on. After all, you want to know whether all of this is “normal” or whether you need to worry or do something about it.
The good news with which she reassured me: Digestive problems during pregnancy are not uncommon and are among the most common complaints. As a rule, they are also harmless, but of course they can be uncomfortable or even painful if you suffer from cramps. In addition, constipation can cause or worsen hemorrhoids, which you really can’t use.
The intestines become very sluggish
It was only during pregnancy that I experienced first-hand how important a well-functioning digestion is for the organism! If you don’t have problems, you don’t really appreciate it otherwise.
Incidentally, the hormonal changes during pregnancy are largely to blame for the digestive problems. The intestines become quite sluggish and, especially in the last few months, they are also constricted by the growing uterus. Unfortunately, all of this promotes digestive problems and constipation at a time when you can do without such complaints and just want to enjoy your growing belly.
The Christmas season as a hard test
I was pregnant with my daughter over the winter – at Christmas time I had just arrived at the end of the second trimester and was already pushing a nice round ball in front of me. The delicious Lebkuchen time together with all the other delicacies at the Christmas market and at home put my digestion to a hard test.
All my resolutions to eat healthy were swallowed up by the face of the earth as soon as I stood in front of a delicious crepe, for example. I just randomly “shoveled” everything hearty and sweet into me! My body suddenly didn’t want anything healthy anymore! And me? i was weak And ate regardless of loss.
Help constipation!
December put me on the scales at the time by 3 kg and yes, some digestive problems. So along with the heartburn came the constipation and made my life pretty difficult. Enjoying food – none.
After the holidays, I pulled the emergency brake and turned back to healthier eating. I ate more fruit and vegetables again, especially in raw form. With whole grain products, legumes and muesli, I also fed my body good dietary fiber, which got my digestion going. And I made sure to drink a lot more water again.
Prevent with enough exercise
I also ran longer laps with the dog again, because exercise also stimulates the intestines and fresh air is good anyway. I used to lie around far too much on the sofa in front of the fireplace – the winter made me sluggish during this pregnancy, I have to admit that. I didn’t really feel good about it either.
However, the digestion only leveled off completely after my daughter was born. I had a very large belly with a real bundle of joy of over 4 kg – no wonder that the intestines were not able to really perform at their best! Unfortunately, as a mom-to-be, you often just have to go through with it. But you know what? You endure everything! After all, we mothers know very well that all the troubles and hardships are worth it and that even the digestive problems are quickly forgotten as soon as you hold the most valuable thing in the world in your arms: your own child.
