Benefits of Hula Hoop Training
Many mistake the colorful tire for a child’s toy, but it’s actually a practical and varied piece of training equipment that you can use to improve your fitness in a fun way. It is not very expensive to buy and you usually have something of the stable fitness tool for a long time.
Best of all: You can train anywhere and anytime – whether at home in front of the TV, outside or on the go. The tire is handy and space-saving and can be easily transported.
In addition, the Hula Hoop convinces with its versatility. You not only train your endurance and burn a lot of calories, you also strengthen your muscles and improve your coordination. The blood circulation is promoted and the connective tissue is tightened. Does that sound good? Here you will find an overview of all the advantages of hula hoop training:
- improvement in stamina
- High calorie consumption
- Strengthening of the abdominal, leg, bottom, back and arm muscles
- tightening of the tissue
- Blood circulation is promoted
- Improving coordination and balance
- Improving mobility in the trunk
Pelvic floor training with hula hoop
The hula hoop is also ideal for strengthening the pelvic floor after childbirth. The gentle training can be done from home and with just a few minutes a day. You activate the weakened muscles and slowly build them up again.
It is best to wear tight-fitting clothing for your training, as loose shirts or sweaters interfere with circling. Assume an upright posture and activate your pelvic floor muscles by tensing them.
Your tire should not be too light, but should definitely bring some weight. The aim now is to let the tire circle around your hips for as long as possible. If that doesn’t work so well at the beginning, there’s no reason to despair. A few minutes a day are enough to start with. You can slowly increase the duration. It is only important that you spin in both directions so that the muscles are evenly stressed.
You will soon notice an improvement and after just a few training sessions you will probably be able to keep the tire up for several minutes.
How do I find the right tire?
During training, the size and weight of the hula hoop play a role. Basically, the larger and heavier the tire, the easier the training. Due to the higher centrifugal force, the movements are slower, which is good for internalizing the process. If you are a beginner, a larger, heavier tire is more suitable for you.
However, the tire must not be too heavy either, as the muscles are not yet designed for a heavy weight. This can lead to pain, back discomfort and bruising.
For beginners, the Hula Hoop expert Akku Hallerbach recommends a hoop with a diameter of 110cm to 120cm. It may be between 800g and 1200g.
Advanced users train more effectively with a smaller tire. If you can already hoopen a few laps, a tire with a diameter of 100 cm is good for you. Here, too, the expert recommends a maximum weight of 800g to 1200g.
When set up, the tire should ideally reach a height between the navel and the pubic bone. If the Hula Hoop can be divided into different segments and put together, you have the option of varying the difficulty levels.
If you would like to try training with a heavier tire, it is best to approach it slowly. However, training with a medium tire weight is often more effective than with a heavy one, since the body has to build up greater momentum – coupled with mobility, skill and endurance – in order to keep the tire up. Advice from the expert: If the tire doesn’t want to stay up, it’s usually too small and too light.
Hula hoop with massage function
Many hula hoops with a fitness focus also have a massage function. In these models, the inside of the tires is wavy or has small nubs that provide a massage effect during exercise and gently stimulate the body. This type of tires can have a positive effect on the organism by reducing stress, stimulating digestion and helping the body to better remove toxins. In addition, they can tighten the skin.
