Who invented Santa Claus?
Red coat, bushy white beard, a big sack on his back. Every child knows him: Santa Claus. But where does Santa Claus come from?
Where does Santa Claus come from? Your child will surely know the story of how he flies over the city in a reindeer sleigh and slips through the chimneys into the houses. Everyone knows about the Christmas workshop at the North Pole, where busy elves make all the presents. And if you’ve been nice, you’ll be rewarded with a gift. But did the man with the bushy white beard really exist, or is he fictional?
Who invented Santa Claus?
Santa Claus is a fictional character that originated in the United States. There he is called Santa Claus and slips down the chimneys on the night of December 24th to 25th to bring presents.
What does Santa Claus look like? We in Germany only know Santa Claus through films and advertising. Coca-Cola played a major role in this, because it was through the brand that Santa Claus was invented: the Swede Haddon Sundblom was to design a Christmas campaign for the lemonade drink in 1931. Since the company colors are known to be red and white, Coca-Cola is also to do with Santa’s red coat. Sundblom thought the colors matched, so he put Santa in a red and white coat. This is how Coca-Cola managed to bring a fairytale character to life.
It is therefore very easy to explain why it is a question of Santa Claus and not Santa Claus. Sundblom thought a Santa would fit the campaign better.
