Frottage: handicrafts with children aged 3 and over

When you were a kid, did you ever put a coin under a piece of paper and rub it with a pencil? This rubbing technique can be tried on many other items. The results will be amazing.

Age: from 3 years

What you need: Objects with a surface structure such as wood, leaves, shells, string, wire mesh, hot water bottles; Paper; Crayon or wax crayon

Handicraft instructions for frottage

  • Look around your house, yard, or shed and choose items that are good for rubbing through.
  • Your child places one of the selected objects under a sheet of paper.
  • Hold the paper tightly: While older children master this without any problems, smaller children need their parents’ help for this.
  • Now use a wax crayon or wax crayon to rub over the areas under which the object lies. Rubbing works best when your child holds the pencil or chalk horizontally.
  • It’s funny when the little artists present the chosen motif twice, next to each other, shifted or in different colors. Of course, several objects can be combined with each other to form animals or landscapes.
