The Very Hungry Caterpillar: handicrafts for children aged 3 and over
You can easily make the very hungry caterpillar with your children. You don’t need much for it and it still looks great.
Age: from 3 years
What you need: Finger paints, wax crayons, 5 round beer mats or 5 round cardboard circles, 4 pattern clips, pipe cleaners, brushes, a pointed object, hole punch
Instructions for making the very hungry caterpillar
- First, your child paints the five beer coasters in different colors either with a brush or with their hands.
- Let the lids dry.
- Help your child punch two of the beer mats with the hole punch. These will form the head and tail of the caterpillar. The remaining three lids, which will form the body of the caterpillar, you punch in two opposite places.
- Now your child can connect his beer mat with the pattern clips.
- Your child uses the wax crayons to draw an eye and a mouth on the caterpillar’s head.
- Help him poke a small hole in his head with a pointed object.
- Here you put a piece of pipe cleaner about 15 cm long as a feeler. Finally, twist the two ends of the pipe cleaner around each other twice.
- Now the caterpillar can crawl off the table and go in search of a leaf.
