Crocodile: handicrafts for children aged 4 and over
You and your child can make a funny crocodile out of egg cartons. You can try out this craft idea with children from the age of 4.
Age: from 5 years
What you need: green and red finger paints, 10-egg carton, 6-egg carton, pointed object, pattern clips, white photo cardboard, green crepe paper, black felt-tip pen, glue, brush, stapler
Craft instructions for a crocodile
- First, your child cuts apart the lid and base of the 6-egg carton.
- Your child paints the outside of the large box and the two halves of the small box with green finger paint.
- The halves of the small box are also painted red on the inside.
- Once the colors have dried, help your child connect the short sides of the boxes with pattern clips.
- To do this, place the large egg carton upside down, as this resembles the back of a crocodile.
- Place the lower small half of the egg carton in front of the large carton with the red side facing up. Open the big box. Using a pointed object, poke two holes from the small box through both boxes. Now you can connect the two boxes with two pattern clips.
- Use the same technique to attach the second half of the cardboard with the red side down to the crocodile. Now you have a crocodile with a slightly open mouth
- Now your child can make thick paper balls out of two pieces of green crepe paper for eyes. Glue it to the head and draw thick pupils on it with the black felt-tip pen.
- If your child is good with scissors, they can cut sharp teeth off their white cardboard crocodile. It then sticks it in the crocodile’s mouth.
- With its big eyes and sharp teeth, the crocodile now looks really dangerous.
- Making the crocodile takes a relatively long time. Therefore, you should actively support your child so that it does not lose its motivation.
