That’s why you shouldn’t care about testimonials about births
Hours of labour, emergency surgery and episiotomy: Every woman hears or reads horror stories about childbirth more than once during the course of her pregnancy. The stories often unsettle expectant mothers. We’ll tell you why you shouldn’t care about the horror stories at all.
1. Because negative things are more likely to be passed on than positive things
“My neighbor’s sister’s girlfriend had a really bad birth” – women in particular gossip a lot and often, and not only when it comes to having children. Unfortunately, it’s the lurid stories that can cause the most attention. This is why you may hear a particularly large number of negative testimonials during your pregnancy, because these are simply told around more often than supposedly boring stories about normal births. Just ask the mothers you know about their births. This gives you a much more realistic opinion.
2. Because after birth you know what the human body is capable of
You give birth to a human – how incredible is that? Of course, childbirth is exhausting and painful, we don’t want to deny that. But every single birth is also a fascinating miracle of nature and shows you what the human body can do: It not only offers a small being a “home” for nine months and provides it with all the important nutrients, but also brings this new life even to the world. A unique experience that only we women can live through. Sorry, dear men!
3. Because giving birth proves that women can sometimes do more than men
Speaking of men: Rarely do we experience the stronger sex as weak as in the delivery room. Here even the biggest machos become emotional crybabies, whose circulation often collapses while we push and fight. Would they even survive the hardships of childbirth? In any case, most self-experiments by men on the labor simulator end in a premature termination. So forget all the horror stories, we women have the power and will rock it! After all, with your midwife you always have a strong woman at your side who will support you during your birth.
4. Because in the end every woman has somehow made it
No matter how bad the horror stories about childbirth are, the women in the stories always end up giving birth to a baby. Think who all is mother. If they all did it before you, then you can easily do it, right? 🙂 You will also have even more respect for your own mother after the birth – and she will certainly have one or two insider tips for you against horror stories beforehand.
5. Because you can eat whatever you want after giving birth
Mett rolls, sushi and a delicious piece of feta cheese? You have to give up all the goodies right now. This is over after the birth! Bye, fear of toxoplasmosis – hello, meat, cheese, latte macchiato and Hugo! Look forward to a big feast. Of course, if you are breastfeeding your baby, you should only consume coffee and alcohol in small amounts or rarely. The time of drinking is also relevant here: There should ideally be two to three hours between drinking alcohol and the next breastfeeding meal, so that most of the alcohol in your blood and milk has already been eliminated.
6. Because the real stress only starts afterwards 😉
Don’t let the horror story tellers in your circle of friends and acquaintances rob you of your valuable time – because you’ll still have plenty of it during your (first) pregnancy. Once the baby is here, it will have a firm grip on your everyday life. So enjoy being together with your partner again and take a lot of time for yourself. Go on vacation, sleep a lot and long and just spontaneously do the things you feel like doing.
7. Because the effort is worth it
As soon as you hold your baby in your arms, “Men in Black” suddenly becomes reality. Remember the neutralizer from the movie that people use to flash things and forget everything that just happened? You will feel the same way after the birth. Suddenly there is a little person who draws all your attention. Pains? Hours of waiting? Suddenly everything doesn’t matter and it was definitely worth it. And it would also be worth doing a second time, you’re sure of that. Maybe not immediately, but maybe sometime in the future…
