Wonder buttocks in the baby – what to do?
Baby skin is very sensitive, so a sore bottom is not uncommon. To avoid soreness, you should pay extra attention to it. You can find out here why a sore bottom develops in babies and what you can do about it.
Prevent sore buttocks by changing diapers frequently
A baby’s bottom is particularly easily irritated by the diaper and all the excretions that end up in it. The warm, humid environment is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. That’s why you should ideally change your baby’s diaper four to six times a day to keep your baby’s bottom nice and dry and clean. But even with adequate care, inflammation can occur.
Wonder buttocks despite frequent diaper changes?
Reasons for a baby’s sore bottom can be, for example, intolerance to the diaper or certain “aggressive” foods such as citrus fruits or peppers. A sore butt is therefore also more common in babies who are already receiving their first complementary food. But even if a baby is still breastfed and the breastfeeding mother eats foods with a high fruit acid content, this can have a negative effect on the baby’s stool and buttocks. To find out exactly what causes a sore bottom, you should change the diaper manufacturer or try cloth diapers. Omitting certain foods can also help in finding the cause. A sore bottom can also be caused by allergies and intolerance to care products or bath additives.
Miracle Po: First Aid
- If the bottom is sore, you should try to let your baby run around or kick around without a diaper as often as possible so that air can get to the stressed skin.
- When cleaning, it is better if you only use clear, germ-free water and do without any oils that may have been used before. You should also stop using powder and oil wipes from the drugstore to protect your baby’s sore bottom.
- You can also add a dash of oak bark extract to the water you use for cleaning and use it to dab at the sore spots on baby’s bottom. Chamomile tea is also very suitable as an additive, because it not only has an anti-inflammatory effect, but also has a calming effect.
- Marigold oil from the pharmacy also has an anti-inflammatory effect, which you can use to care for the sore baby bottom.
- After cleaning, make sure to dry your baby’s bottom well. The skin folds in particular must be dried well and carefully to prevent the buttocks from becoming further inflamed.
- You can then cream the sore spots on your baby’s bottom with a zinc ointment, which ensures that moisture stays away from the affected area and supports wound healing. However, you should not apply the cream too thickly, because then not enough air can get to the skin and the healing process will be delayed.
- If the cause research and first aid are unsuccessful and your offspring’s buttocks are still sore, you should definitely ask your pediatrician for advice.
What to do with severe redness?
If you discover open and severely reddened areas of skin in the diaper area, you should definitely see a doctor. It can be diaper rash or a fungal infection that can only be treated by a professional. The pediatrician will prescribe special ointments for you. Otherwise, the same hygiene tips apply as for slight reddening.
