3rd month of pregnancy: your baby
In the 3rd month of pregnancy (9th to 12th week of pregnancy) your baby enters the final phase of embryonic development. It has thus overcome the critical phase.
- By the end of the 3rd month the embryo is about 9 cm long.
- His head still looks big compared to his body. It has developed human features through facial muscles. So you can already see his ear cups and eyelids.
- Nails on fingers and toes have formed and most organs are formed and working. The kidneys excrete urine. The liver produces blood cells. The stomach produces digestive juices. And the heart is pumping hard.
- By networking the nerve cells, the signals for movement processes can be transmitted. Therefore, your baby can move all parts of his body: he will spread his feet, make a fist and kick. However, you cannot feel these movements yet. The movements are not only used for training, but also for the further development of the brain.
- The development of the brain is particularly pronounced in the 3rd month.
- The skeleton also hardens. The embryo gains weight and size. The first bone cells develop on the 49th day after fertilization. The embryo is now complete.
- Your baby is entering the next phase of development, it is now a fetus.
- Note : The second check-up is pending.
