Highchair in the test: the best children’s highchairs
A high chair for the child is part of the initial equipment. Because when your child has reached a certain age, they would like to eat at the table with the grown-ups. Stiftung Warentest has tested highchairs. Only three of the seats performed well. Frightening: every second person was rated “inadequate” by the testers.
High chair in the test: Rating by Stiftung Warentest
Stiftung Warentest has currently tested 20 high chairs and published them in its May 2018 issue, including step high chairs that grow with the child – in which children of primary school age can still sit ergonomically correctly – as well as high and folding chairs for small children up to 3 years of age. Four of the manufacturers offer baby attachments that can be attached to the high chair. The five test points of the Stiftung Warentest were: child-friendly design, handling, durability, safety and harmful substances.
Unfortunately, the result of the test was disappointing overall: only 3 out of 20 chairs tested can be recommended. Many of the high chairs are unsafe, hardly ergonomic and contain harmful substances.
The best highchairs according to Stiftung Warentest
Evomove Nomi
The high chair Evomove Nomiadvertisementis one of the three winners at Stiftung Warentest with the grade “Good (1.6)”. The child-friendly design for children from the age of five months stood out particularly positively from the testers. Because the footrests of the high chair can be infinitely adjusted. Another advantage: the Evomove Nomi is light and easy to handle. Unfortunately, at around 350 euros (including the attachment), it is not a cheap model, but it impresses with the good test results and offers the advantage that it grows with the child thanks to its special ergonomic concept and can be used into the teenage years.
So that it is already useful for infants, you need the right attachment for the high chair Evomove Nomi.advertisement
Stokke Tripp Trapp
Safe and free of harmful substances – the testers from Stiftung Warentest were impressed by the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair with these positive properties.advertisementThe ergonomic seat is suitable for children from five months. Like the Evomove Nomi, it is in a higher price range. But the investment is worth it, because the high chair made of beech can also be used up to primary school age.
So that it can also be used for babies, you need the Stokke Tripp Trapp attachmentadvertisementas a supplement. Also practical: the matching playtrayadvertisement is ideal for playing and eating for your child.
Safety 1st Timba
The high chair Safety 1st Timba is the price-performance winner at Stiftung Warentest. No pollutants were found. And especially for older children, this high chair represents real added value. Parents should note one thing, however: the three-point belt should be put on with this model so that the child cannot get out alone.
High chair in the test: The losers at Stiftung Warentest
Unfortunately, the majority of the highchairs tested were disappointing across the board and were rated “poor” by the testers.
The following high chairs contained large amounts of harmful substances that children should not come into contact with: Pinolino Philip, the Herlag Tipp Topp Comfort IV model, Robas Move, the Tec Tace high chair, Pep Pérego Prima Pappa Zero 3, Filikid Aron and the Polly2Star by Chicco.
In terms of security, some models could not convince the testers. The examiners even described the Geuther Tamino as “life-threatening” because the child could slip down and, in the worst case, the child’s head could get stuck. The Hauck Alpha+ also failed in the safety category, as children can climb out of it without any problems.
Also not convincing overall for the testers: Hauck Sit’n Relax, two models from the Swedish furniture store IKEA, the models Blames and Antilop as well as the high chair Joie Mimzy 360.
