Which pacifier shape is ideal for your baby?
In cherry shape or symmetrical shape: the selection of pacifiers is large and varied. We give you an overview of different pacifier forms.
To give you a first overview, we introduce you to the different pacifier forms below:

ToggleJaw-friendly pacifier shapes
The jaw-sized teat exerts little pressure on the jaw, leaves plenty of room for your baby’s tongue and thus does not disturb it when swallowing. The shaft should be as thin and flexible as possible so that the lips can close as far as possible and so the jaw position is affected as little as possible. The thick end of the pacifier is curved upwards, the underside is as flat as possible. This shape, researchers have found, corresponds to the shape of the nipples when breastfeeding. Here, the upper part of the nipple bulges upwards, while the lower part is flattened by the tongue of the infant. The shape leaves as much space as possible for the baby’s tongue. But even the jaw-friendly shape does not protect against malocclusions during long use and should therefore not be used excessively.
The pacifier with angled shaft
The shaft of this pacifier should adapt to the jaw and tooth position. It is very thin, flat and angled between the outer shield and the actual sucking part. As a result, the tongue has more free space and the opening between the upper and lower incisors remains small. The tooth position remains as unaffected as possible.
The pacifier with adaptive (adapted) shaft
This pacifier is still in the development phase and is very similar to the pacifier with angled shaft. The difference lies in the material: It should be made of extra soft and flexible silicone, which adapts to the shape of the jaw and the position of the teeth.
The symmetrically shaped pacifier
This pacifier has no special shape. It is available with both thick and thin shafts. The sucking part is usually somewhat flattened, which is reminiscent of the shape of the nipple. A symmetrical shape can be favorable, as the baby can not take the pacifier “the wrong way” in the mouth and so no sucking confusion arises.
Cherry-shaped pacifier
This pacifier is also characterized by a relatively thick sucking part. However, it has no flattened side and is reminiscent of a balloon.
