Baby yoga: pure relaxation for you and your baby
What do mother and child do during baby yoga? What does such a course bring you and your child and where can you do it? Here you will find all information about baby yoga.
What is baby yoga?
Yoga originated in India. The idea is to unite body and soul through regular yoga practice. Yoga is about making energies flow in the body with certain postures and breathing exercises.
The idea of baby yoga comes from the English anthropologist and yoga teacher Francoise Barbira Freedman. She researched the treatment of babies in non-European cultures. She came across the positive effects of dealing with babies during yoga. For her, it was shown that yoga could improve the empathy of parents towards their children. She then adapted classical yoga to the needs of pregnant women and young mothers with their babies and thus developed the baby yoga that is taught in the courses today.
What happens during baby yoga?
A baby yoga class combines gentle yoga exercises for you as a mother with relaxing massage for your baby. First and foremost, it is about you and your child finding peace and relaxation. Through various yoga techniques you can recharge your batteries and balance for everyday life.
For you, targeted exercises are planned to strengthen your neck, shoulders and back, as these areas are particularly stressed in young mothers. Your child lies in a romper suit on the wool blanket, is playfully involved and does light stretching exercises with your help. First and foremost are simple touches and the associated body experiences. That’s why most baby yoga classes consist of a combination of baby massage and stretching exercises for mother and child.
