ToggleWhat is a toddler group?
The idea behind the toddler group is that parents and their toddlers get in touch with other children of the same age and their parents before they start kindergarten. In addition to the aspect that children learn singing games, sing songs and make music for the first time in the community of other children, the contact between the parents is also important.
What happens in the toddler group?
A toddler group is a meeting place for parents and their babies. At regular intervals – usually once a week – several mothers get together with their children and talk about the topics that are close to their hearts: What are the best breastfeeding tips? Where can I find the right pediatrician? Why does colic last longer in my baby than in the neighbor’s child? This intensive exchange means that you do not feel left alone with your questions. In addition, you realize that you are not the only mother who lacks a suitable answer to some problems. While you talk to like-minded people, your baby also forms its first tender bonds and can get stimuli in turning, sealing, crawling and pulling up.
Why visit a toddler group?
For you and your baby, visiting a toddler group can have many positive aspects:
- When your baby is with other children, he tries to emulate them.
- Your baby learns new skills much faster, development is driven and it builds social behavior.
- Early contact with other babies strengthens the immune system.
- In addition to learning, fun is not too short: So you can all invent finger games together, sing simple songs or try out movement games.
When and where to visit a toddler group?
- Suitable for:Â Children who attend a toddler group do not yet go to kindergarten. Therefore, the toddler group is suitable for children aged one to three years.
- Time:Â A toddler group meeting usually lasts one to two hours. Depending on what is planned and how old the children in the group are. A course usually lasts half a year and is often continued after the holidays, when parents and children are still interested in participating. Often toddler groups do not end simply after the agreed time, but continue throughout the year and have changing participants.
- Provider:Â Just ask in your community, the churches, mothers’ centers or kindergartens in your area. Often a toddler group is offered by these institutions. Sometimes a small financial contribution is required. If this is too high for you or you can’t find a suitable toddler group, start your own, individual toddler group with friends, for example from your birth preparation course. To find other mothers, you can put up notices on the notice board in the supermarket or place an ad in the daily newspaper.
- Cost:Â Many toddler groups are free. Sometimes you pay a small financial amount, for example, to cover the room rent, drinks or craft materials. However, this is usually manageable.
