Why do your little ones go to children’s dances?

We asked our MomaSquad what sport their child plays and why they would recommend it:

“My daughter goes to rock ‘n’ roll twice a week. Actually only because her friend is there too. She didn’t want other sports because she doesn’t know anyone there. Now she dances and enjoys it!”

Children’s dancing: from what age?

  • You can already go to children’s dancing with your baby. In the parent-child courses, the focus is on listening to music, especially in the first few months.
  • From the age of three, the little ones take part in children’s dancing without their parents.

What can your child learn from children’s dancing?

In children’s dancing, the range of exercises extends from learning simple movement sequences to choreographies and dance performances. For example, the little ones practice a dance for the town festival or organize a small performance for a dance school evening. While the little ones are musically encouraged through instrumental and movement games, six-year-olds can already decide on a special dance style. It doesn’t matter whether it’s standard, Latin, jazz or hip hop: In the courses, your offspring will be taught the appropriate dance steps and choreographies.

Who offers children’s dancing?

Both the music garden and dance schools and clubs offer dance courses for children. The target group of the music garden are children from birth to the age of five. The focus here is on singing, making music and dancing. Clubs or dance schools offer another opportunity for children from the age of three to dance. Courses for children’s dancing are certainly also offered in your area. Just call the organizer of your choice and arrange a trial lesson. You can thus get a first impression of the premises and dance teachers together with your offspring.

How much does children’s dancing cost?

The fees vary depending on where you register your offspring. In the Musikgarten you should expect monthly costs of between 30 and 40 euros. But you also have to reckon with similar fees in dance schools. It is cheaper to join a club, because your child often trains cheaper in special gymnastics and dance clubs.

How often is children’s dancing offered?

Basically, you should assume that the dance practice sessions are offered once or twice a week for about 40 to 60 minutes.

What does your offspring need for children’s dancing?

In the beginning, your child only needs comfortable sportswear. Since you generally practice in the hall, your child also needs suitable sports shoes. This can only change with later specialization. It is ideal if you inquire at the dance school in good time which training outfit your child needs.

What skills do your offspring learn in children’s dancing?

  • Health: Through the rhythmic games, dance exercises and choreographies, your offspring will improve their posture and flexibility.
  • Motor skills:  The muscles of the little ones are sustainably strengthened. Condition and strength also improve.
  • Cognitive skills: During the exercises, they get to know their limits and can thus build up self-confidence.
  • Social skills:  In the dance course, your offspring also practice dealing with other children. The partner-related games reduce fears of contact and thus strengthen self-confidence. The little ones learn to coordinate their movements with other children and to fit into the group.
