General information about eye infections in babies
Watery, smeared, sticky and inflamed eyes are not uncommon in babies up to the age of one. The cause is that your child’s tear ducts are not yet fully formed. You can gently clean the glued eye with a paper towel that you have previously dipped in boiled, lukewarm water. To do this, wipe the eye from the outer corner of the eye towards the nose. If you have an eye infection, it is best to get professional advice from your aftercare midwife or a pediatrician.
In the event of reddening of the lower eyelid or the conjunctiva, there may be a contagious eye infection. That’s not funny. See a doctor immediately!
